This exercise will introduce you to the identification of normal and pathologic
blood cells.
1. Start looking at an
overview of hematopoiesis
2. Red blood cell development is fairly straight forward; click on the pictures or text-links on the
erythopoiesis page. Also
look at
adult red blood cell morphology,
infant RBCs,
and
abnormal RBCs.
Some images can be clicked to enlarge them.
3. Next, study
lymphopoiesis and
normal small lymphocytes.
4.
The monocyte
and
monocyte development.
5. The granulocytes include the
neutrophils,
eosinophils, and
basophils.
We’ll first look at a
quick review of granulopoiesis and finish by
looking at
images of the cells.
6. If you’re not overwhelmed by this point, you can view
normal blood cells and bone marrow, with hematopathology.
As with the last lab exercise, there is a
quiz.
Again, to make this meaningful, take a piece of paper, print your name and < Hematology quiz > on it,
and then write down each of your choices for the 10 questions. Put this aside, as you will
be handing it in to me next week. When done, then use the < Click! And see the answers... > feature of
the quiz.
